Molly, it is important that strengh can just little bit change, need to listen to that change. For this you can hold your fingers less tight:

Subtlety: The difference between a strong and weak response can sometimes be subtle. Pay close attention to how much effort is needed to break the circle.
Molly i learned from observing a chiropractor use this method that different fingers have different sensitivity. Try using your pinky instead of index finger, or try another finger. Try making both rings with the same fingers or pulling slightly harder apart.
