Immunoglobulin M (IgM) is a class of antibodies produced by the immune system and is typically the first antibody generated in response to a new infection or immune challenge. It plays a key role in early immune defence by helping the body recognize and respond to bacteria, viruses, and other foreign substances. IgM may help with supporting acute immune responses, immune vigilance, early infection defence, and overall immune system balance.
